FRAGILE explores the connections between flute and voice, between sound and breath, gesture and word.
It is a journey through the nocturnal landscape of listening, where the boundary between language and silence dissolves, revealing the living matter of sound.
The path begins with Voice by Tōru Takemitsu, a cornerstone of the contemporary flute repertoire, where poetry is recited, shouted, and whispered in a continuous dialogue with Japanese Noh theatre. From there, the journey unfolds through Petrarchan oxymorons (Dolce tormento by Kaija Saariaho), linguistic dissolution (dying words II by Richard Barrett), and poetic enchantments (Incauto incanto, fantasia reticente by Mario Garuti). Der Umriss by Antonino Giacometti reflects, with the words of Nelly Sachs, the notion of the contour — an allusion to the fragile attempt to give form to an unspeakable pain, to what remains after, to a past that resists definition.
Written especially for this album, ’72 Tape Machine by Vincenzo Parisi renews the dialogue between memory, voice, and rituality, exploring the percussive and timbral possibilities of the instrument.
The voyage continues toward the meditative reflection of Alpha Waves by Malin Bång, and concludes with Dia Nykta by Fausto Romitelli, the point of arrival and dissolution — an immersion into a mythical and visionary night evoked by the fragment of Ibycus, where the light of the stars burns within the darkness of sound.
In the sound of Alessia Scilipoti, the flute becomes body and voice, instrument and word, echo and breath — a fragile yet necessary act of presence within silence.

Qui va là? Qui que tu sois, parle, transparence! Who goes there? Speak, transparence, whoever you are!
Shuzo Takiguchi, Handmade Proverbs
Kaija Saariaho (1952 - 2023) - Dolce tormento for piccolo flute (2004)
S’amor non è, che dunque è quel ch’io sento?
Ma s’egli è amor, perdio, che cosa et quale?
Se bona, onde l’effecto aspro mortale?
Se ria, onde sí dolce ogni tormento?
S’a mia voglia ardo, onde ’l pianto e lamento?
S’a mal mio grado, il lamentar che vale?
O viva morte, o dilectoso male,
come puoi tanto in me, s’io no ’l consento?
Et s’io ’l consento, a gran torto mi doglio.
Fra sí contrari vènti in frale barca
mi trovo in alto mar senza governo,
sí lieve di saver, d’error sí carca
ch’i’ medesmo non so quel ch’io mi voglio,
et tremo a mezza state, ardendo il verno.

Foudroyer par l'obscur langage
Le rire du prisme solaire
C'est à quoi mon règne s'engage
Avec l'ange de colère.
Plus de profil ni de face,
Sur les armes de Persée
Il ne restera de trace
Autre que d'une pensée.
Et seul le jet pourpre d'elle
(La gorgone) d'où s'élance
Le cheval aux longues ailes
Qui decoupent le silence.

Übrig ist die Umarmung
der Leere
ein kreisender Ring
der seinen Finger verlor.

Abgeblättert die leichtsinnige Vergoldung
der Nacht
die sich der Tag erlaubte.

Grüngefärbte Landschaften

Alles ist ausgewandert mit dir
mein ganzer Besitz enteignet –
nun trinkst du geliebtestes mir

A reduction in voluntary body movement and
temporary blindness,
decreased reaction to external stimuli, loss of
consciousness
a decreased rate of cell structures' breakdown necessary
for survival
muscle activity slows and we drift in and out...
remember fragmented visual images
sudden muscle contractions, a sensation of starting to
fall
brain waves become slower with occasional
bursts of rapid waves,
night terrors or sleepwalking, alpha waves
begin to appear, there is no eye move-
ment or muscle activity, you can’t adjust
immediately, your breathing becomes
more rapid, more irregular, and shallow
limb muscles become
temporarily paralyzed

- LEGGI L'INTERVISTA
